Wulugu is a town in the North East Region of Ghana carved from the old Northern Region. Its capital is Nalerigu. It is connected by road to the capital of the Northern Region, Tamale and the capital of the Upper East Region, Bolgatanga.

The Zayaa mosque as lots of people call it is located at Wulugu, 14km from Walewale in the West Mamprusi district. It is one of the 20thC buildings in the country built from mud. It is peculiar in that it is an uncommon storeyed traditional design of historical and military interest.

ust 20 minutes south of Bolgatanga in the village of Wulugu stands the Zayaa Mosque. It is made of mud but built in a completely different style than any other mud mosque in the region. It is square with a number of levels and looks more like an ancient defence castle than a place of worship. It was built in the 20th century by Sheik Abdul-Karim who was following his dreams that showed him where and what to build. The building combines a mosque and a house where the Sheik used to live.
