The Ankasa Conservation Area is an area in southwestern Ghana, in Ghana’s Western Region, about 365 kilometres west of Accra near the border with Côte d’Ivoire.It incorporates the Nini Suhien National Park in the North, and the Ankasa Forest Reserve in the South.

Ankasa-Nini-Suhien National Park and Resource Reserve are situated close to the border town of Elubo, some 1-hour 45minutes drive west of Takoradi.The Ankasa Conservation Area is the only wildlife protected area in Ghana that is located in the wet evergreen tropical high rainforest belt.

This 490km2 of intact wet evergreen forest is a zone of great botanical beauty and richness with some 300 plant species per hectare.The Ankasa, Nini, and Suhien Rivers all pass through the park, and are known for their rapids and waterfalls. The forest has the most biological diversity of any in Ghana, with over 800 vascular plant species, 639 butterfly species, and more than 190 bird species

Indeed, the Ankasa Resource area has been designated as an International Biosphere Reserve to serve as a nature museum for research. Other interesting features in Ankasa are hiking trails, trees and twines of remarkable formation, river cascades, “Bamboo Cathedral” and Lodges constructed to make the visitor a bedfellow of nature. It has unique vegetation and humid air of the jungle. The weather at the reserve is unpredictable and tourists are advised to take along raincoats when visiting. It can also be visited from nearby beach resort areas such as Axim, Jewi Wharf, Elubo, Busua and Cape Three Points.
